Canadian Poker Tour
Last week a few of the guys were chatting about going to play in a Canadian Poker Tour tournament in Sarnia and I thought it'd be a good idea to get some more live play action in before heading to Vegas. The tourney was to start at Noon on Saturday at the Sarnia casino near the border. Two, Azim and I were going to drive there early Saturday morning at like 4-5am, check into the hotel and grab a shower before the tournament. The only problem with me was that I usually hit the sack around 6am and wake up at 2 in the afternoon, so leaving at 5am would mean I'd get zero sleep which is obviously not ideal for playing a poker tournament. I sucked it up, had a couple red bulls and black coffee and took to the tables at noon ready to play. The blinds started at 25/50 and we started with 5000 in chips. The first few hours I was running extremely hot and I was picking up chips pot after pot. In one hand this lady limped UTG (under the gun) and two other limper's followed.. I raise it up with pocket 10's from middle position. It gets back to the lady and she min raises my bet, this bet just screams out that she has AA or KK. This lady was the other chip leader at my table besides me so I know if I'm lucky enough to flop a set in this spot I will be to grab all her chips and add to my already chip lead. I end up getting a beautiful flop of 10,4,2 and I grab her whole stack against her aces. The rest of the day I just played solid poker not needing to gamble as much b/c I had so many chips. We got down to about 30 players left, me and Two were still in the tournament at this point. Oh yeah I should mention the format of this tournament before I continue. There was 3 qualifying days of this tourney that started on Thursday, the top 14 players of each day would make it to the finals on Sunday. So me and Two were left in the tournament, Azim got knocked out when his QQ lost to A,Q all-in preflop. Then Two ran into a bad beat when he pushed with AA and got called by QQ and the other donkey luckily hit a Queen on the turn ending Two's tournament life. The blinds starting getting extremely high when there was two tables remaining and it was a complete all-in fest with all the short stacks. At my table I was probably second in chip with the 15 players remaining when the chip leader at my table when a loose player decides to move all-in from middle position. I'm in the big blind and I glanced down at two red aces.. Christmas! The guy flips over K,3 off suit and I win the all-in making me one of the huge chip leaders of the tournament. So I sat on my chips till the day ended and went straight to my hotel room with the guys to get some well needed sleep. I passed out around 10 o'clock only to be awaken by one of the guy's snoring like a mad truck, it was insane, I don't think I've ever in my life heard a human being snore like that.. it was quite funny actually but I got a brutal sleep cuz of it.
We all woke up around 10am to go get some steak and eggs and I'd get ready to play in the finals. The final day consisted of 40 players and I was ranked approx. 3rd in chips. The blinds for the final day started at 400/800 and I had about 95,000 in chips.. so I had plenty of time to relax and still needed to avoid any gambling situations. We got down to about 25 player when this hand occurred; an absolute canon at my table moves all-in from the cut-off for about 50-60 thousand. I'm in the small blind and I pick up pocket kings and I instantly call. The donkey flips over J.9 of hearts making him a 80/20 dog to win the hand. Well his 20% chance of winning the hand came when he flops a straight and flush draw and turns his flush to absolutely cripple me. All that hard work down the drain on one bad beat. At this point now I've got barely any chips left and I play strong short stacked poker. I really excel with a short stack in tournament being able to pick good spots and take advantage of players just trying to make the final table. I managed to win a few blinds and got down to 10 players remaining when I lost an all-in with A,Q vs 7,7 vs K,10. I was eliminated 10th place and received $3,000 and rankings toward the Canadian Poker Tour. All and all I felt I played a very very good tournament, minimized mistakes, avoided gambling when I didn't need to and changed gears excellently. Who knows, if I don't get that bad beat with the Kings I possibly go on to win the tournament and win $50,000. Oh well, there's always next time!

Two Wins!............ well sort of. Chop it up!
The last couple days I’ve completely zoned into online… honestly its been pretty sick, I’ve probably crammed in 30 hours of playing over the last two days and still managed time to get to the gym and slip a few hours of sleep in there. My binge started off great winning the Poker Stars $55 rebuy tournament. During this tournament I was very concentrated, playing Jay Pizzo poker, poker I wish I could play in every tournament I play in. Was making great reads, huge lay downs and saving bets. Although I was playing great I went to the final table short stacked. Was able to get it all in with AK vs. A10 and doubled up right away. There was a lot of action at this table; people were throwing their chips around. A very crucial hand happened when the chip leader raised on the button and I had pocket 9’s in the big blind. I decided just to call being able to fold the hand if big cards fell on the flop. To my liking I received a dream flop of A,A,9 flopping a full house. The original raiser was a very strong player and came out betting right away, making me believe he’s capable of betting trip aces into me in this spot. I cold called the flop looking to put him all in on the turn, but on the turn he checked… So I bet out an over sized bet trying to look weak and wanted to win the pot right there. He calls might bet instantly. The thought did cross my mind that he possibly flopped a full house also with A,9 or possibly filled up on the turn but I could really care less at this point… all the power to him if he did, I was going all the way with this hand especially this late in the tournament. The river bring a useless card and he checks to me right away, I move all in for my remaining chips and he calls instantly showing A,3 giving him trip aces and I’m shipped this huge pot. At this point there are 4 players remaining and I have a slight chip lead. One of the players in the chat box asks if any of the remaining players are interested in making a deal for the remaining prize pool. For those who don’t play poker this is very common practice when there are few players remaining in a tournament. The blinds get so high sometimes and there’s so much gambling at this point anyone is capable of winning. In this case I had a slight chip lead, so I would receive slightly more money then the other players… I gladly accepted the deal because like I just mentioned the blinds were so high is was a crap shoot at this point. So I managed to walk away with a nice chunk of change of $5,500.
After playing online non-stop I decided I’d play a small tournament at The Unit.. it was a $60 buy-in with a couple tables. The tournament didn’t have a very strong field, so I was looking to take advantage of the weak spots. At my opening table I was able to get involved in quite a few hands without getting played back at. My chip stack was going up and down like a roller coaster, at one point I was down to 400 in chips from the starting 2500. I managed to win a few pots then grabbed a big one where I flopped bottom two pair from the big blind and doubled up giving me a pretty average stack going into the final table. The very first hand was kind of a weird one. One of the stronger players at the table was sitting to my right and opened up for a raise, I glanced down at my cards and called with A,10 (ace of clubs)… Two, who also made the final table was sitting to my left, moves all-in trying to steal the pot. At this point I thought Two was pretty weak, but at the same time I thought to move all-in against a early raise and a call (squeeze play), made me think he had to have something decent. It gets folded back to the original raiser and he thinks for a while and decides to call, I fold my hand knowing I had to be dominated. Original raiser flips over A,Q and Two flips over A,10 offsuit.. I was shocked why he would of made that move in that spot with such a mediocre hand like A,10 and Two replied by saying he didn’t know there was a raise! He thought we both just limped and tried to steal.. anyways the flop comes with 3 clubs and the turn brings another club (Would have given me the NUT FLUSH!).. I was pretty pissed off b/c if Two would have seen the raise he would have played the hand differently and I would have scooped a huge pot. So right off the bat I was pretty spun knowing I should be chip leader at this point. I re-grouped and played pretty solid throughout the final table, pushing when I needed to and made some big lay downs. We were down to 5 players (top 3 pay) when a gross beat happened to me. I’m in the BB (big blind) and the button limps in.. now the small blind makes a Huge raise all-in, I look down and happily see pocket kings. I make the call and the small blind says out ‘Oh shit’ as he flips over one 3 and says it was his best card. The rest of the table laughs when he flips over a 2 of spades to go with it. One of the remaining players at the table mentioned how she folded a 3 leaving only two 3’s left in the deck. It’s pretty obvious what happen now; the flop is 7,5,3.. turn 3! I lose the pot and once again I’m short stack. Now I go on a pretty good rush moving all-in numerous times picking up the blinds and was also able to felt(knock-out) a player in the process. We were down to 3 handed and I won a race situation and knocked out the 3rd guy. We were down to heads-up in the tournament and we both had pretty equal chip stacks, so for my second tourney in a row we decided to chop it. Just like the other tournament, the blinds got really high at this point and any hand could have ended it.
So all and all I had a really successful couple days making $6,000+.
I headed home to my parents place in Guelph this past weekend to see the family and some of the boys. Its reading week so a bunch of people are home in Guelph. I had a pretty relaxing time being able to get some good meals in at home and just did some well needed relaxing without poker. People laugh when I say that, how I need a vacation from poker but its 100%. true. When you play all the time it gets very exhausting and stressful, going home gives me time to just chill and have no worries on my mind. I also went out with a bunch of the boys for some drinks and had a good time. I don’t really remember much of the night having 1 too many drinks but it was fun from what I do remember.
I’m going to take another couple days off from playing and start fresh on March 1st. February was a decent month but not even close to as good as my January.. So I want to start March off with a clear mind and zoned in to playing more consistent. That was my biggest problem in February after looking back. I would play great for one week making some huge cashes then fall off for a week or two. So I’m dedicating March to playing good poker all month and not getting distracted.
Goal for the month of March: $15,000+
We’ll see how the battle goes..

Live Tourney & Full Tilt Holdem/Omaha -- So Close!
Its been a while since I've played a live tournament from playing online so much that I though I'd go check out a tourney at a local Poker club. The tourney was $350 buy-in with a $150 re buy or add on, so pretty much it was a $500 buy-in with 20,000 starting chips and the blinds starting at 25/50. As I registered and drew my seat number I saw some familiar faces at my table, one which was a good friend of mine Azim... Me and Azim go back years from when I first starting play poker, he was one of the first guys I met in the poker community. To make a long story short for about the first year I played poker I played with Azim going from tournaments to live games nightly. During that time I learned a lot from Azim and we were able to discuss hands, mistakes and strategies. Getting back to the tournament I started off great doubling up right away with JJ to a canon trying to bluff me out of the pot. A few hands later I ran into a cooler when I flopped a set of deuces running into the nut flush... from there on in I went into grinder mode trying to pick up as many chips as I could from a pretty passive table. I stayed pretty average stack the whole tourney till we got down to about 14 players. I got myself into a race situation with pocket 7's which went down in flames to K,Q off suit, crippling me pretty badly. I managed to squeeze my way to the final table along with Azim sitting directly to my right. I rarely ever play to just get in the money, always having the mindset to win at all costs.. but this was one of those situations where I had such a crippled stack that making it to the money (6th) would be a task on its own. I stole blinds when I could but the cards went cold at the wrong time making me fold A LOT more then I ever do with a short stack. A bad beat took place with 7 players remaining getting into 6th place and cashing $800. I got knocked out by Azim of all people! lol.. He raised on the puck with A,10 and I glanced down and squeezed one Ace and shoved it, unfortunately when I opened the hand the other card was a 5. I figured I'd rather lose my chips to Azim then anyone else, he did manage to use those chips usefully winning the tournament cashing over $6,000. All and all I felt pretty good for my first live tournament in a while, didn't make too many mistakes and felt really confident at the table. Besides winning making the final table was a goal I set before this tourney and was able to accomplish it. With the WSOP in Vegas coming up in a few months I'm going to do my best to play as many live tournaments as I can to get some practise in.

Tonight I signed up and registered for the $320 buy-in Full Tilt Online Poker Series tournament. This tournament is a little different then the usual ones I play because it was Pot Limit Holdem/Pot Limit Omaha tourney. Pot Limit opposed to No Limit means at any point you can only bet whats in the pot. And Pot Limit Omaha is similar to holdem except that you get 4 cards in your hand opposed to 2 cards. Every 10 mins the game would rotate from Holdem to Omaha and back & forth. The tournament started with 645 players with a first prize of $45,200. I really got into the zone early in the tournament accumulating chips without too many problems. I really took advantage of the Omaha rounds finding a lot of weak players not playing well in these rounds. Holdem players tend to play very loose/aggressive when playing Omaha gambling a lot more then they usually would. Managing to flop top set(3 of a kind) a couple times I really grabbed some chips and was in the top 10 with 50 player remaining. At this point of the tournament I go moved to a very very tough table with about 3-4 solid Internet pros and a couple live pros. I tightened up my game while at this table grinding away till I got moved, this took a bit of a beating on my stack but was still sitting with the average chip stack. We got down to 18 players and I was 11th in chips at the time when I ran into this situation. I was in the small blind with A,Q,J,4 double suited. It was folded to me in the small blind while the big blind was one of the chip leaders of the tournament. Whenever I get down to 2 tables left in a tourney I really change gears here and try to put myself in a position to win the tournament. A lot of weak players make the mistake of tightening up there play just trying to make the final table, well you might make the final table but will most likely be knocked out right away. Whats the point in that? To try and make a little extra money? I think that's stupid and I've had so much success in tournaments b/c I play to finish FIRST and FIRST only! So getting back to the hand, I hammered into the chip leader hoping to grab some chips to build on this average stack. The big blind got very lucky flopping trips with 5,5,2,4 to a 8,4,4 flop. I flopped the nut flush draw with this flop and bet the pot right away, with trips he obviously puts me all-in. At this point I had over 70% my stack committed to the pot leaving me no option but calling getting over 4-1 on my money. I end up losing the pot getting knocked out 17th of 645. 17 place paid out approx. $1,003.00 for my efforts. I really felt like I was going to win this tournament at all stages but it doesn't always work out as we'd like it too.
Overall I had 2 pretty good showings in these tournaments. Although I didn't win I was able to cash in both of them and minimized mistakes & gambling situations. This week I'm going to get in as many hands as I can and hopefully win a big one!
We'll see you all in a couple days and I'll let you know how its going. As always feel free to post any comments regarding any of the stuff I right in my blogs. Just click on the comments link underneath each blog and you can read comments by others and also post your own.

Getting the ball rolling....
Since my last post I've really been able to pick things up and get back in order. I don't have any huge placings but I've been playing good poker and even though I'm still taking some rough beats I see myself making a big cash sometime in the near future. Tonight I made it to the final table in the $75 tourney on Full Tilt. I went in medium stacked and lost with JJ vs Q8, if i win this all-in it puts me second in chips and in a good position to win the tournament. I ended up finishing 7th place paying out roughly $1,000. I was also able to cash (cash=placing in the money) in 2 other tournament tonight on Ultimate Bet and the $109 on Full Tilt. I was looking at my statistics as of late and I see that my Poker Stars ROI (return of investment) has been significantly lower then the other sites I've been playing on.. and I'm really not too sure why? It can possibly be b/c the poker stars tournaments start with only 1500 in chips apposed to the 3000 on Full Tilt. Might have to go back to the playbook and see if the 1500 chip count tourney strategy need some adjusting.
While I was playing online tonight I was surfing around and found a great video featuring Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan for those who don't know is the host of Fear Factor and UFC commentator.. but I found out recently that his #1 passion is being a comedian. So anyways I was on his website reading his blog and read about a beef he has with another comedian. It goes on and on but the other night Joe went on stage and got into a verbal argument with the guy. Its some funny and witty shit. Joe is a very smart guy after I watched some videos on him. I always liked him as a UFC (ultimate fighting) commentator but I definitely like the guys a whole lot more after watching and reading some of his material. Here's the link to his blog which has the attached video if any of you are interested.

Other then that things have been pretty good lately.. been hitting the gym regularly and getting my energy back. I'm a little pissed b/c it seems like everyone I know seems to be going somewhere hot for vacation within the next couple weeks... and I'm stuck here with this gross cold weather. Might have to call up some of the guys and swing down to Vegas for a weekend... gonna see if I can free up some time.
Rented the movie The Departed last night and I thought it was a good movie, but I'm gonna watch again now see if I can pick up some things I missed..

Murphy's Law
"Whatever can go wrong will go wrong".... this is what has been happening to me the last 2 weeks at the tables. Running very very cold since my 6k cash in the Full Tilt tourney. It feels like if there's a possibility for me to lose a hand, the poker gods are making me lose it. I could write 3 paragraphs of bad beats I've taken lately but I would make too many people sick. Aside from the cards not cooperating I don't feel I'm playing my best poker right now anyways. Not sure if its because of the beats I'm taking or my head just isn't in it. Making some very amateur mistakes in crucial points of tournaments I simply should never make.
The last couple weeks I've also felt like shit.. not sick or anything, just very sluggish. I'm on a terrible sleeping schedule right now that I can't shake. I know this is all because I haven't eaten healthy like I do lately do to playing in live card rooms where the food selections aren't always the best. I woke up today and got back on schedule, went grocery shopping to replenish my fridge of vegetables and plenty of fluids. Made my way to the gym today and felt good. I'm a very firm believer that healthy living will have a positive effect on your poker game without a doubt. Healthy living results in high mental and physical energy which is obviously needed to play poker for 12 hour sessions.
I did just rant about how bad the cards have been running, but I was able to pull off a 2nd place finish in the Ultimate Bet (UB) 100+9 tourney tonight. It wasn't a huge tourney, only about 110 players. But it felt good to get a solid cash under my belt. A good win can help your confidence that seems to dwindle during a losing streak. I had my boy Serge sweating me in the ladder stages of the tourney (sweating=watching). I played a pretty solid tourney, got very lucky with JJ outdrawing QQ but also took some beats of my own to even it out. I made it heads-up against a pretty solid player. I won the very first hand making a huge check raise allin on the flop making him fold and made him steam a bit. Then the very next hand he raises on the puck, I call on the Big Blind (BB) with K,J.. flop is K,9,2. I feel this is a perfect spot to make the exact same move on the guy hoping he's still steaming and calls me with a shitty hand. Well I did check-raise all-in again and unfortunately he calls with pocket deuces giving him a set. I'm not too disappointed because even if I do play the hand slower a 10 comes on the turn locking me into the hand with top pair and a gut shot straight draw... so I lose that hand either way.
Its about 5am now.. gonna try and hit the sack.. Get to the gym early tomorrow, then possibly play a couple tourney's tomorrow night if I feel up to it.

Back in Action
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't written a blog in a while, I've been extremely busy. I didn't realize I had some avid readers so I'll make sure to keep posting. I've actually had a good couple weeks excluding the last couple days. I had a couple good runs in the $163 Multi table tourney on Full Tilt, but still haven't won. I made it one of my 2007 goals to win this tourney and I keep coming SO CLOSE but can't manage to put the nail in the coffin. I finished 6th place of over 400 entrants paying me $3,112. I played that tournament pretty solid but ran into 9,9 when I was holding 8,8. In these tourney's when you get to the final table the blinds start to get really high, so a lot of gambling comes into play. Its tough to do sometimes because you sit in a tournament for 4-5 hours playing solid poker, then you get to the final table and have to gamble with some hands you wouldn't usually do with. But that's how you have to play to win some of these tournaments, unfortunately I ran into a slightly better hand this time. About a week ago I managed to finish 3rd place in this same tournament, this payed out a nice sum of $6,246. Its funny because pretty much the same thing happened to me in this tournament as well. When we were down to 3 handed and the chip leader was an absolute canon. Pushing and going all-in every pot. Finally I was in the big blind holding 10,10, he made his typical all-in raise on the button, I made an immediate call with no hesitation that I had the best hand.. Unfortunately he flipped over KK and my goal to win this tournament vanishes again. I felt pretty positive after this tournament because I didn't get sucked out on or I didn't play a hand poorly. I just ran into a cooler (certain situations where you simply are destined to lose or go broke) and there wasn't much I could do.
I mentioned earlier I have been busy and its pretty much been re-doing my bedroom. I got my new 50" plasma installed on the wall, new queen size bed put together and a new larger computer screen (so I can play more poker tables at the same time!) It was a pain in the ass putting up this new TV because I didn't realize that behind my drywall is concrete, so hiding the cords was tricky. Other then that I went out to a birthday party at some bar called Drake Hotel the other night, the bar was brutal.. I literally had to wait half hour to get a drink, but still had a good time hanging out with some friends.

In February Full Tilt is hosting Full Tilt Online Poker Series III, its basically a week long of high buy-in tournaments with huge guaranteed prize pools. I'm going to do my best to play all the tournaments so I'll be sure to post my results.

Home Games in Action!
In the last week or so I've played in 2 different friendly home games, something I haven't done in a while and I truly forgot how fun they really are. One of the first tournaments I've ever won was the called the 'Beatrice Invitational' at my brother Rob's house and his two roommates/friends Ryan and Matt. Man it feels like it was yesterday when when I got the call from those guy's saying they are going to host a $50 tournament. I fell off my chair, I was like, "What? 50 bucks, are you crazy, that's a lot of money"..with the quick response of, "Yeah, but you can win 350 bucks".. And those sweet words officially started my poker career!..lol The tournament was seven handed and I remember it lasting forever (oh yeah I forgot to mention, this took place about 3 years ago). I managed to knock out every player and won the first ever Beatrice Invitational winning the $350 dollars which at the time felt like thousands. About a week ago I was talking with my brother and we thought it be a good idea to host a Beatrice Invitational II while watching football on Sunday. So we called up all the boys, pulled out the old table top and chips and the games began. Its kinda funny because I've played tournaments with buy-ins well over $1000 and had zero nerves going into them but with the Beatrice Invitational I was a bit nervous of losing . I was the defending champion.. I couldn't lose! haha
The table consisted of myself, Ryan, Matt, Rob, Mike Wilner, and Two. The very first hand I lost half my stack making a donkey move and I felt the title slipping through my finger tips.. I ended up flopping some big hands and grabbed some chips and made it heads-up with Two. When I went heads-up with Two, I knew he was going to do one thing and one thing only... try to make a big Move on me. I know the way Two thinks when I'm playing him, he thinks I'm trying to push him around and he always snaps back with a big bluff in the wrong spot. And what I thought happened did, I raised on the button with Q,J.. Two looks at his chips (one of Two's tells..lol) then moved all-in... I called and he flipped over 10,J.. He received no help from the board and I became the two time Beatrice Champion! Sorry guys, better luck next time!..hah Ship it
The second home game I attended was at my cousin Paul's house. Now that I've gotten pretty big into poker my cousins have been bugging me to teach them how to play. So we picked a Saturday night and set up a game. I ended up just dealing most of the night so all the games went smoothly, most of the people at the table didn't even know the rules so Poker 101 was in session. I was actually pretty impressed on how many of them were able to pick up the game and concept pretty quickly and we actually had some intense battles. By the end of the night everyone wanted to keep playing but it was 4am! Playing poker all the time makes it tough to see family so I was glad to be able to hang out with my cousins and be able to play poker at the same time. All and all it was a great night, I'm looking forward to the next time we do it.
Pretty much the purpose of this blog is that I didn't realize not only how much fun it is playing home games, but how much it actually improves my poker game in general. When I'm playing poker sometimes over 50-60 hours a week. I'm playing 100% focused and dedicated to play the best poker I can making no mistakes. It can be very mind draining and stressful. When I jump into a fun home game it allows me to relax and play stress free and have a good time while I'm playing.. it also allows me to play like a donkey if I want and do dumb things and not worrying about losing a lot of money. Its like a professional basketball player who plays in the NBA taking a night off and going to shoot hoops with his buddies. He might not try a 360 dunk in a real game but he'll sure have fun and try it when he's out playing for fun. I'm going to do my best to play in more home games when I have the time, so I can blow off some steam and have fun with friends and family.

Final Table of Pokerstars $100+9 Mult-table Tournament
01/11/07
Its about 4:30am right now and I just finished playing in the pokerstars tournament mentioned in the title. I haven't had a big cash since my 5k 4th place a few nights back. Been playing well and cards are running good to, but just seem to have been losing crucial hands late in tournaments. I played pretty solid throughout this tourny and avoided any gambling situations whenever possible. We were down to 18 players and I was just holding my head above water trying to stay alive. I managed to steal a few blinds and made it to the final table short stacked. It sucked going into the final table short stacked but I would be able to throw my chips around and gamble and hope to double or triple up. In the first few hands of the final table I was in the big blind with 8,9 of hearts when JohnnyBax(popular Internet pro) raised from early position to 6000. I called from the big blind with my 25000 stack. The flop came 6,7,8 giving me top pair and an open-ended straight draw. A perfect flop for my hand as short stacked. Not checking I immediately move all-in. JohnnyBax thinks and calls with A,J giving him no pair and ace high. The turn comes a 10 of spades making my straight, leaving JohnnyBax to only a 9 to make him a higher straight. Seeing I had a 9 in my hand that left him only a 6.82% to hit on the river. And my final table curse continues when a black 9 falls knocking me out in 8th place. Finishing 8th place paid out just over $1000.
I was about to go to bed after getting knocked out, but I was talking to a friend of mine Serge who was in a late night tournament and I thought I join to blow off some steam. Its a cheap tournament only a 26 dollar buy-in. Its funny because I'm tired and want to go to bed but I'm running super hot in this tournament. I'm currently 1st place out of the remaining 180 and people keep handing me their chips! Looks like its going to be a late night.
I dunno who has been watching that new poker show called 'Poker After Dark', but I think it sucks. Its a new show that starts at 3:30am by Full Tilt poker, it pretty much has the same players as High Stakes Poker on GSN but its a single table tournament format. There's no commentating so sometimes you hear nothing but the chips shuffling which gets pretty annoying. I'm hoping I just caught a couple bad episodes because I was looking forward to this show especially that its on a perfect hour of 3:30am!
Anyways I'm gonna finish up this tourny and check on how my boy Serge is making out then probably hit the sack and wake up tomorrow to play a few more tournys!

So So SOUR!
I'm still staring at my screen in shock of what just happened to me in the $163 Full Tilt Multi-table tournament, where 1st place paid $14,000. The whole tourny I stayed about average stack and managed to make it to the final table of the 372 players who entered the tournament. I was playing really solid and had a pretty tight aggressive image at the table. I was able to win a big all-in with pocket 6's vs A,9 to make me chip leader with 6 players remaining. I was sitting with about 300k, the closest guy to me had about 200k and third had 180k. From the button the guy with 180k moves all-in as I look down at A,k. I immediately call and the button shows A,9 offsuit. To my liking the flop comes down A,K,8 rainbow.... the turn... a 9, I laughed out loud thinking how sick it would be if the guy hits another 9 on the river to fill up. And my final table curse continued when the 9 of spades fell on the river. I nearly puked on my keyboard. After the flop fell I was a 99.19% favorite to win the hand. So sick. But I still had some chips left and played all-in poker for a few rounds getting me back in contentions with 4 players remaining. with the blinds 10,000-20,000 I move all-in on the button with A,K again and got called by the chip leader with K,Q.. and of course a Queen comes right away on the flop knocking me out in 4th place. The day wasn't so bad because forth place did paid just over $5,000. As happy as I am winning $5,000 in 1 days work.. I'm still so sick about not winning the 14k.
I did manage to cash in another tournament on Ultimate Bet paying me approx. $300. So all and all it was a good day, considering the bullshit beats I took on the final table. Its about 2:30am right now, I'm probably going to eat since I wasn't able to get up during the tournament to eat. Then probably catch a flick on TMN and hit the sack..

Jay Pizzo's first ever Poker Blog!
What's up everybody..
I'm using this site to blog all my poker results, poker hands and anything to do with poker. I am starting this blog for all friends, family, co-workers and players who are curious about my poker results and lifestyle. Consitently I answer the same questions about how I did at a certain tournament or about specific hands, so I'm hoping by putting it all down here will give you guys all the stuff you want to know. It's my 2007 New Year's resolution to track all my poker winnings and to keep it in a blog, so here it is. And I do apoligize for my shit writing, haven't been in school for a while now which might show in my blogs. Most of my blogs will talk about online tournaments I play in, live and online cash games I jump into and poker trips I take. I'm going to try my best to write in a way that if you have no idea about poker you will still get an idea on whats going on.
Before I get into specifics, I'll give a rundown of of my poker success in 2006. 2006 was the year of online for me, prior to this year I was playing the majority of my poker live at casino's and underground clubs. I was bored one day and opened up one of my poker accounts on pokerroom.com and saw they gave me a free $20. Joined a sit n' go (single table tournament), won that, played a $100 multi-table tournament finished second, before I knew it I turned that 20 bucks into $5000 in a few weeks. I was happy as a pig and shit, I won't lie.
In April-JuneI headed to Las Vegas with my brother Rob for the WSOP (World series of Poker). For those who don't know the WSOP is approx. 30 days of different tournaments ranging the buy-ins from $1000-$10,000. The main event is 10k. So the first tournament I entered was the $1500 No Limit holdem event. I started the tournament off great doubling up by flopping a set making myself chip leader for my table. Played solid for a few hours till I played an interesting hand with Andy Bloch (professional player) where I still think he played the hand like a donkey. With the blinds at 50/100 he raises from middle position to $400 of his $2700 stack, I'm sitting directly to his left looking down at KK raising it to $1800 to go. He thinks and thinks and only calls leaving himself with only $900. I'm wondering why he wouldn't push or fold from that spot? Anyways the flop comes 8,4,2 rainbow. He checks and I immediately put him all in for his remaining $900 and he quickly calls with 8,8 flopping top set. That hand completely crippled myself for that tournament. From there on in I ran Awful for the rest of my trip in Vegas. I entered the 1k buy-in tourny at the Bellagio getting knocked out late in the tournament with KK all-in vs JJ to a JJ,4 flop. Following that tournament I had an early exit from the $1500 Limit Holdem WSOP event having my KK again get run down by A,J. Besides getting unlucky at the poker tables I did end up having a good time meeting up with a good buddy of mine Brohman and a couple of his buddies and drank away my poker sorrows. All and all my first Vegas trip was an awesome one giving me a shit load of well needed experience playing with top notch players and getting a real good feel for the professional poker player lifestyle. But that knowledge didn't come cheap! Overall the trip cost me about $5000-7000 with tournament entries.
In September and October I was running extremely hot in online poker touraments. 6th Place in the World Series of Online Poker Cup tournament on Poker Stars paying out over $26,000, winning 2 WPT Seats worth $12,000 per seat and winning a few other smaller tournaments tallying approximately 50k over those two months. In the end of October I had my best personal accomplishment when I played in the $10,000 buy-in World Poker Tournament event in Niagara Falls. The tournament had approx. 500 players with a 1st place prize of over 1 million dollars. I made it down to 50 players left in day 2 where I took my worst beat in my poker career. To make a long story short, because it hurts even typing this shit, I moved all in with pocket Aces and got called by A,Q offsuit and the guy made a straight. 45th place payed out $20,000 and I finished somewhere between 46th-50th paying me zero dollars! Ship it!
I also had a fun trip down at Foxwoods Casino and resort which I'll talk about in future blogs b/c I'm sure you all are bored as shit right now!
Alright guys I'm really hoping I stick to writing this blog on a regular basis, if any of you have any questions about specific hands or anything just let me know.
